Since I have stopped nursing my little boy, I have started my period once again and these are the poses I have relied on for relief from aches and pains, PMS, and heavy bleeding.
This first post is a standing twist. Take twists lightly during menstruation. This one is really gentle on the abdomen but still stretches the legs and the lower back.
>> While in a forward fold, bend one leg and twist towards that leg, then twist in the opposite direction, away from the leg. Do the same thing on the other side.
Any squats or poses that stretch the hips are really great and are definitely my favorite! Here are a few hip stretches I have relied on to relieve pain from cramping, bloating, and back pain.
The last two I want to mention are 'legs up the wall' and an extended side angle. These both are great for the legs, lower back, and hips. 'Legs up the wall' gives you lower back relief and helps with blood circulation while the extended side angle helps to stretch and strengthen these areas.
A few poses you will want to avoid while on your period are inversions, plow pose, and boat pose. These could be too intense for this time of the month. They could increase blood flow too much and also strain the abdominal muscles.
