THE BLUES.

No matter where you are in life, 'the blues' is a real thing and it hits me fast and hard after having a baby. I have gathered a list of things to do that can help bring more sun on those rainy days. Keep in mind that these are not just for after having a baby, but for pregnancy or any other time during your life. These are things to do anytime you may be feeling a bit 'down and depressed'.

1. Make your bed in the morning - Scientifically it has been proven that making your bed in the morning mentally will get you ready for the day. This is usually the first task you take on for the day and it can make a drastic change to the day ahead of you. Tasks that are similar may include taking a shower in the morning, getting ready and wearing make up (even if you don't plan on leaving the house), etc.

2. Get up and move - Whether this means exercising at the gym, a walk down the street, or a simple morning stretch, it can make a difference. This can be a natural anti-depressant and can lift your mood quickly!

3. Sleep - Sometimes all you need is a little extra sleep. Being sleep deprived can make us into someone we never thought we could become and getting some much needed sleep can get us back on track and feeling great again.

4. Get some sun - Even if that is just 10 minutes a day from just the sun shining through a window, it can help. Vitamin D is a natural mood booster and can also improve your immune system and even help with chronic illnesses.

5. Take Vitamins - Make sure you are not deficient in any vitamins. Some good vitamins that can help with depression are Omega-3s, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, and Magnesium.

I have created this list not only as a reminder to myself during my current postpartum journey, but also for anyone who may be searching for some light in their life right now. Keep in mind that there are also many therapists and helplines that are available, and contacting your doctor can help for some more individually directed guidance.
