They teach the 'eat wake sleep' cycle and how it can help the baby to not become dependent upon the comfort of eating to fall asleep. They also discuss the idea about how getting a good feeding session in will contribute to a good nap. Then which helps the next feeding which helps the next nap... etc. With this philosophy, each nap and each feeding session is successful which can then lead to a good nights sleep. Because then the baby has gotten enough calories during the day and won't have the need to wake up at night and eat.
Since we have started this with my little man a week ago, he is now sleeping from 8pm to 6am with only one feeding in the middle of the night! Now, this doesn't mean we don't have bad nights, but it does mean that I can at least expect to have a some-what normal night ahead of me each day.
