Being a parent is HARD! It’s hard to remember to take time for yourself and it’s even harder to achieve the goals you have set for yourself and your family when life gets so crazy.
We moved into a new home last week and I’ve been looking at it as a new beginning for us all. New goals. New schedule. New everything. I have written down goals for myself as well as my family and we have set a schedule to help us stick to those goals!
I have listed some of our goals below:
GOALS FOR MYSELF:
-Check in with myself before the day begins.
-Continue meditation/yoga/prayer routine in the morning even if it is only 10 mins.
-No electronics before 9am and after 9pm.
-Unplug from phone when I am with the kids - create times to check in on my phone during naps or when they have their personal quiet time. Then set a timer.. only be on for 15 mins.
-Get outside daily, even if it is to walk to the mailbox.
-Connect and reach out to a friend or someone new on a daily basis.
-Sit with the kids at the table each meal and talk.
-After unplugging at 9pm, read a book or do something that I enjoy by myself.
-No screen time before 4pm. Let the kids watch a show while I prepare dinner, but still limit that time.
-Create specific 'mommy/daughter' time and 'mommy/son' time through the day.
-Books before naps and before bedtime.
-Each meal at the table with no screen time during meal.
-At least one hour of 'creativity work' with mom (painting, play dough, drawing, etc).
-Free play scheduled through out the day... no screen time, just them playing alone doing what they want to do.
-Find ways for kids to socialize with other kids on a weekly basis.
-Create active play for the kids at least once a day... outside in backyard, going to the park, going for a walk, create obstacle course in house, etc.
-Have a family meal together at the end of the day without any screen time or interruptions, including everyone seated at the dinner table.
-Have family outdoor activities on weekends and afternoons.
-Have family church study weekly with an activity, songs, and gospel stories.
-Family prayers each night.
Setting these goals and then working them into a schedule has really helped us this last week. I am excited to see where they take us in the future. I am also excited to see how this list of goals evolve as we grow closer together.
